Seagate Ships 1 Billion Hard Drives

Seagate is proud to announce that it is the first hard drive manufacturer to ship a cool billion hard drives, with a total storage space amounting to 79 million terabytes. That’s roughly enough space for 158 billion hours of digital video, or the equivalent of 1.2 trillion hours of music. It took Seagate approximately 29 years to reach this amount, but they are ambitious enough to target the next billion within five years’ time. Imagine the first Seagate hard drive, the ST506 shipped in 1979 for $1,500! We sure have come a long way since then, eh? Congratulations on your achievement, Seagate! Here’s to many more terabytes in the coming years!
