Western Digital has a spanking new hard drive – the VelociRaptor VR150. This model ushers in a new era where 2.5″ hard drives are concerned, boasting 10K-RPM spindle speeds for superior performance. It comes with a heatsink and slides comfortably into any available 3.5″ drive bay. While it isn’t the first 2.5″ hard drive with platters that spin that fast, it is the first 2.5″ SATA drive which does that. Since the platters are smaller, it also means that the VR150 consumes less power, allowing the drive to run quieter compared to its 3.5″ counterparts. Expect to see the VelociRaptor VR150 appear in notebooks sometime in the near future.
