Only in Japan will you get 54Mbps high-speed packet communication and VoIP over your cell phone, and this will happen from June onwards much to the chagrin of the rest of the world. It is amazing that such service is available to ordinary folk there, and here we are without even full 3G coverage throughout the entire country. Granted, Japan’s not that huge in land mass size, but 3.6Mbps and 54Mbps is a whole world of difference. Only DoCoMo FOMA handsets will be able to take advantage of this service. There will be no signup fee involved, but users will be charged a $10 monthly access fee.
