European engineers are currently working on a new security system that will help reduce the risk of injury and death for side-collision accidents thanks to the use of radar and cameras in order to predict an accident approximately 230 milliseconds before it happens. Once it decides that a crash is imminent, a bar will be activated, bridging both sides of the car to transfer part of the impact energy from one side to the other. This bridge bar will be deployed within 70 milliseconds courtesy of a high-power spring that is being held by a coil. Side impacts are one of the most difficult to avoid even when traveling slowly, and the chances of you perishing in an accident from a side impact compared to a head-on collision is much higher. Hopefully this system will be perfected and implemented pretty soon in cars worldwide.
