Walgreens is often a name associated with a friendly neighborhood store, but they too want a slice of prime time action in Times Square by installing the largest LED advertising billboard there, taking up to 12 million LEDs that make up a whopping 17,000 square feet of space – that’s over a third of an acre. The sign itself is able to pump out enough candlepower to shrug off the dreaded high noon sunlight that will turn smaller LED billboards into blurry images. There will be a total of 13 trillion programmable colors, although I don’t think we’ll ever get to see the entire amount displayed simultaneously. I wonder what Walgreens will advertise there – their weekly specials?
