TiVo has taken out its Series 3 digital video recorder from its online store quietly, listing the device as “Out of Stock” in the individual product page. This would mean the lower-end TiVo HD is the remaining recorder which is able to store High Definition video while those who are still in the analog world will have to settle for the Series 2. Whatever Series 3 units that are available will be sold off, and then that’s that from TiVo. This early retirement could be due to the parts shortage that makes it a practical business move at this point in time instead of waiting for the relevant parts to arrive. There is no word on a successor just yet.
