
That’s coming from Steven Prentice, an analyst at Gartner. He thinks that technologies like facial recognition and neural interfaces (“mind readers”) will help oust the mouse from our desks. Although, I’m a fan of these technologies (especially from Emotiv), I think that it’s just crazy to think that the mouse will be gone, in 5 years. The closest threat might be “touch display”, which is not new or more productive, just “cooler” in some circles. Even then, it’s a mouse “complement” – not a replacement.
