Hitachi’s newest Deskstar 7K1000.B hard drive comes with a whopping 1TB of storage space as its predecessor, the 7K1000, but the most interesting part is the extremely low power consumption – it sucks 43% less juice when idle, so those who upgrade their datacenter’s hard drives will be pleased to note that it should help reduce the electricity bill. In addition, data on the drive is more secure thanks to the option of Bulk Data Encryption that helps lock data via hardware instead of software. The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B relies on SATA II connectivity and will be available sometime this month at a yet undisclosed price.
