LG, on Monday said that they have made a deal with US cable providers to get support for Tru2way the new two-directional HD video standard, a descendent of CableCARD, which allows protected HDTV but has only one-way output limiting it to normal TV channels. A memorandum of understanding between LG and six US cable makers should see the latter offer support for tru2way on their networks, letting HDTV from LG and other set makers supply HDTV with interactive options such as video on demand or more advanced programming guides without needing a separate device. LG also says that TVs of their own with built-in support will only be available sometime in 2009.
