Fancy a phone that passively detects vehicle threats around you and alerting you of potential dangers? Well, Oki has done such a thing with their new phone which issues alerts to pedestrians whenever they’re near a DSRC-based automotive communication device-equipped vehicle. The same alert will also appear in the vehicle as well so that drivers are much more aware of the situation around. Since it relies on DSRC for communications, there won’t be any communication charges involved so you don’t need to balance your budget yet again. Sounds pretty cool, but what happens when every Tom, Dick and Harry have one of these? Stopping by a red light could end up to be a really noisy affair as tons of people rush past your car.
