Ralph Lauren lets consumers use mobile phones and QR codes (2D barcodes) to shop. Users will have to download a specific QR code reader from ralphlauren.com/mobile before they can use the service, but the idea is that all upcoming marketing and sales material will feature QR code labels, making it (in theory) easier to buy. Right now it looks like buyers will get free shipping. More promotions will arrive in the future. Ralph Lauren hopes that this will boost their sales, in addition to have press coverage. QR codes have been available in Asia for many years.
