It makes perfect sense for something as power hungry as an air conditioner to be powered by renewable energy – solar power, in this case. Greencore’s GC 10200 will come in two different form factors – a mobile version or a stationary one, but both of them won’t make that much of a negative impact to the environment thanks to the solitary 170-watt solar panel that is able to keep a 600 square-foot room cool. Greencore also touts that “the amount of AC electricity needed to fully charge the batteries for three hours is less than the energy required for a typical coffee maker”. Sounds pretty impressive – I think these will catch on pretty soon, if not this summer then the next.
