Folks who hook up via Serial ATA will be able to enjoy double the maximum transfer speed in the near future, thanks to the upcoming SATA Rev 3.0 specification. This means you can transfer data at a whopping 6Gbps compared to the current 3Gbps that we’re all enjoying currently. The new specification won’t forget its roots though, maintaining backward compatibility with previous SATA implementations by virtue of having the same SATA connector configuration and cables. Just like athletes in the Olympics, everyone wants to be better, faster and stronger with each iteration, and the same can be said for data transfer technology.
