Scientists are currently working on a way to use the tongue in a control system, which would come in handy when it comes to getting a wheelchair-bound person around especially when the hands are not functioning properly. It is interesting to note that motor control of the tongue is done through cranial and not spinal nerves, so no matter what type of spinal damage is incurred, it wouldn’t affect the control of your tongue. No idea why, but might as well take advantage of the situation, eh? This promising technology is currently attracting grants and I can’t wait to see what are some of the inventions created in the future using such technology.
