Creaform’s new VIUscan is a portable 3D scanner that is able to do the job with panache and in high resolution, to boot. This color laser scanner is said to achieve extremely realistic results courtesy of features like simultaneous texture and geometry acquisition, real-time rendering, true color acquisition via an integrated lighting system, an adjustable uniform texture resolution and automatic 100%-accurate texture mapping. This highly versatile device does not need a rocket science degree holder to operate, and is currently being exhibited at SIGGRAPH 2008 this week.
