DoCoMo Handy Separating Mobile Phone

[CEATEC 2008] NTT DoCoMo has come up with this interesting idea that consists of having a flip-phone that can split in two separate pieces. For example, you might want to talk and look at some information at the same time. Also, you could watch a movie on your phone and use the keyboard piece as a remote control. What about changing your numeric pad for a QWERTY keyboard or upgrade to a better display? The DoCoMo handy separating mobile phone concept could allow all this. When assembled, the two pieces are held together by a magnetic mechanism so that it’s easy to disassemble. Of course, it’s not a good idea to do quick gestures with this phone, but during “normal” use, the bind is actually fairly strong. This is a prototype that DoCoMo intends to bring to the market, but the company is still unsure about when they will be able to do so.
