Electroencephalogram helped convict a murder suspect in India
Wellcome images: electrodes setup

A brain electrical oscillations signature test developed by neurologist Champadi Raman Mukundan has been used by prosecutors to help convict a female murder suspect in India. Here’s the process:

  • Suspected details of the crime are read aloud
  • Brain activity is recorded
  • Activity is then processed and interpreted

The inventors claim that this is working, but from what I’ve seen, Electroencephalogram are barely able to enable basic mouse cursor motion, so I’m quite skeptical about the forensic reliability of this technique. May be if it was just a yes/no test, they could use it as a lie detector… via medgadget, engadget
