China’s pretty notorious for their range of fakes and clones when it comes to consumer electronics, so it isn’t surprising to read about fake NAND flash being branded as Samsung chips and sold as bulk from China. Majority of these fake products are carefully packaged as finished products from a myriad of branded vendors, but opening it up and you might even be greeted with a missing die. These fake chips are sold at rock bottom prices and have done a dis-service to market orders for legit memory chips in China. Couple that with an already beleaguered NAND flash market worldwide, we won’t see any recovery in this industry at least for a while.
