iPod touch 2.1 Firmware Update

The first generation iPod touch will benefit from the 2.1 firmware update in several ways once you download it via iTunes, as it will include many of the new features found on the recently unveiled iPod touch 2G as long as those choices are not hardware dependent. This includes the Genius feature that conjures up your own playlist, software-related optimizations for prolonged battery life, alongside a bunch of other fixes and adjustments. This is a free upgrade to those using version 2.0 firmware or later, while folks rocking to version 1 software will have to fork out $9.99 to unlock and download the 2.1 update. As for those using the iPhone and iPhone 3G, this 2.1 update will be available later this Friday free of charge.
