British Police To Get Fingerprint Readers

The British police force will soon be equipped with handheld fingerprint readers thanks to the Mobile Identification At Scene (Midas) project that enables your friendly, everyday policeman to capture a fingerprint on his rounds to identify that person in a snap. This project has cost anywhere from £30m to £40m to date, and while it might help them solve cases or identify criminals in an easier and speedy manner, there is the nagging question of the invasion of privacy on ordinary citizens. After all, isn’t the price of freedom eternal vigilance?
