
Ericsson has managed to touch the magical 100Mbps mark in its Long Term Evolution (LTE) tests where its cellular data gear are concerned, where 2.6GHz base stations and commercial antennas managed to achieve 170Mbps in raw throughput thanks to optimal antenna and channel configuration. In addition, engineers also worked on a method that delivered 130Mbps with the option to use twice the bandwidth without any alterations to hit 260Mbps. While actual net throughput was way below the theoretical levels, it is still at least 20 times faster compared to standard 3G network rates. Ultimately, I am just interested in seeing this hit the market for consumers, since mobile content is getting much more complex and heavyweight compared to WAP pages of yore.
