GE Parades Battery-Free Wireless Sensors

GE Global Research has successfully developed a battery-free, multi-detection radio-frequency identification (RFID) sensing platform which could find its way into a many applications, especially where low cost wireless sensing products are concerned. Some of the targeted industries include healthcare, security, food packaging, water treatment and pollution prevention. GE has decided to rely on traditional RFID tags to build these unique RFID sensors which have been coated with a chemically or biologically sensitive film. The sensor reader is able to pick up a range of responses, whereby it will then identify and measure individual chemicals in different mixtures and variable conditions. Some of the trace concentrations detected include toxic gases, volatile organic compounds and chemicals in liquids.
