The wall street journal thinks that HP is counting on the current fascination around touch screens to spur demand for its upcoming laptops (we’re talking about finger-friendly computers here). Sure, HP has shown a real interest in the technology by shipping its TouchSmart PCs (read our IQ506 hands-on). It is an interesting concept that works quite well on a large display (except for the price), but the HP interface was built for larger displays and still has a long way to go before “spurring demand”. I don’t doubt that HP will release touch screen laptops – I think they will, but I hope that they got the user-interface right. As we often say at Ubergizmo, software is where the value is.
