Panasonic will be rolling out a Blu-ray recorder and player combo in the US sometime next year. Details are extremely scant, but we do know that such devices in Japan have already seen significant price drops, with Sharp’s Blu-ray burner currently retailing for approximately $800 – a far cry from Sony’s models that retail from $1,000 to a whopping $2,600. With the economy still in tatters, it remains to be seen whether such an expensive consumer electronics device will be able to make great sales numbers when released. Guess if you can afford one, you won’t really be that adversely affected anyways, not in terms of bread and butter.
