Quake Catcher Network Makes An Impact

The Quake Catcher Network (QCN) is an interesting project that attempts to harness the power of included accelerometers in majority of modern notebooks in order to measure seismic activity. This data will then up uploaded and consolidated onto a central network for further study. The 1,500 strong QCN notebook grid is able to form a surprisingly sensitive web that costs the researchers just about nothing, and it has so far managed to record moderate tremors in Los Angeles this July which measured 5.4 on the Richter scale.
