The ongoing FPD International show in Japan saw Samsung demonstrate its massive 63″ plasma display that features 4K resolution – a whopping 4,096 x 2,160 pixels, which is way higher compared to what regular full HD displays offer. Samsung managed to do this by shrinking individual pixels to just 0.339mm x 0.363mm. In addition, the barrier rib structure was slimmed down further while both transparent electrode and bus electrodes were revised. Just to get a better idea of how much smaller these pixels are, they’re less than 50% of one found on a modern 63″ full HDTV. Would be interesting to see just when 4K TVs become commercial, but it’d be a pretty hard sell in these times considering how everyone else is more concerned about bread and butter issues.
