
Nice to know that you don’t have to take complicated steps to unlock your new T-Mobile G1 unlike the iPhone, as all you need to do is beg, borrow or steal (I wouldn’t recommend the last option though) an activated T-Mobile SIM card. Insert it into your G1 and power it up, following the procedures below.
1. Go through setup process to link any Gmail account
2. Go to Settings > Wireless Controls > Wi-Fi Settings > Enable Wi-Fi
3. Connect to nearby Wi-Fi network if one is available
4. Remove said SIM card and insert unactivated SIM that came with the G1
That’s all you need to do in order to get the G1 up and running without having to tie yourself down to a 2-year contract.
