According to TimesOnline the lack of appropriate garbage receptacles in various UK cities has been a complaint for pedestrians. They are looking forward to next year when hundreds of bomb-resistant bins with “blast intelligent technology” and LCD screens displaying the local news will be placed throughout the financial district of London. London removed many bins during the 1980s at the height of the IRA bombings where explosive devices were regularly left in them.
These new bins developed by Media Metrica can reduce the shockwave of the explosion and contain the heat and shrapnel generated. This should help to allay the fears of bomb containing bins and further protect the public.
