Robot Collects Dues

Japan is clearly miles ahead of everyone when it comes to electronic payment, with payment being made not via credit cards or cash, relying on e-money instead thanks to the versatile FeliCa RFID readers which are able to support multiple forms of electronic currency. All you need to do is swipe your phone and you’re good to go. NEC has seen an opportunity to further expand its business interests with this new giant robot that is able to act as a FeliCa payment terminal. The user will need to choose the right e-money icon on the robot’s chest-mounted touch screen display, swipe the handset over the reader/writer embedded in the left hand, completing the transaction. Other features of this robot include a built-in camera system with facial recognition technology that identifies and profiles visitors.
