Swiss company BKW are currently working on Project Goldfish – a submarine that is able to keep itself juiced thanks to an island of solar panels which float above the sub’s surface. Not exactly the most stealthy submarine IMHO, which kinda rules this out for military service. This submarine can accommodate up to 30 people simultaneously, and with the use of solar power, it can remain submerged indefinitely. Just make sure the captain doesn’t dive too deep as sunlight can only penetrate water by so much. Hopefully it will come with a backup power source of some kind, cause it certainly sucks to remain stranded underwater without any more power to generate oxygen and keep the sub running cool.
