Dell is making Windows XP available to certain home PCs again instead of clunky Vista, although you will effectively need to fork out another $150 to get XP. If only second hand car dealers took the same approach, we’d be having much more energy efficient vehicles on the roads right now. The Inspiron 1525 laptop and 530 desktop are the beneficiary systems from this exercise, as Dell takes advantage of the downgrade loophole normally reserved for business users. Seems that Windows Vista has been proven to be unable to realize its full potential, and consumers just won’t change for the sake of changing.
To be fair, it’s Microsoft who dictates the rules for who can get XP and in which conditions to OEMs like Dell. The ultimate goal of Microsoft is to retire Vista, but they face hordes or customers who just don’t want to let go. And for sure, Vista isn’t that bad if you have a fast system and if you know how to disable the features that you find annoying. In any case, What about getting more memory or a 7200rpm hard drive instead of forking $150 just to stay on XP?
