Word has seeped out that the latest firmware release 4.5.0.97 for both the Blackberry Pearl and Blackberry Curve will unlock the GPS feature, allowing users to roam around in unchartered territory with additional help this time round. There is no official word from Verizon, so it remains to be seen whether this was intentional on their part or a big boo boo. Hopefully it is the former, as we’ll know whether the latter is confirmed with the next firmware release that could see the GPS feature locked yet again. It seems to function only on OS 4.5 as BlackBerry Maps for OS 4.3 does not come with the option to select the Internal GPS.
