Second place is the first loser, or so the saying goes. Well, the Pasen REI-16 portable media player doesn’t even warrant second place, as it doesn’t come with any groundbreaking features like Apple’s iPod touch when it was first unveiled. Still, you do get a 3″ MVA touchscreen display with a built-in NES emulator, something most second-tier portable media players these days feature as a staple. The 8GB model is tipped for a January release for approximately $130 a pop. Initial impressions show that the REI-16′s user interface is pretty zippy, responding quickly and appropriately.
