What you see above are not rejects from the Beijing Summer Olympics mascot design competition, but are actually known as Poken. They offer a novel method to exchange contact details with somebody else not via Bluetooth or IrDA, but with high fives. Yes, all you need to do is place your Poken’s hand up to your friend’s, and when you plug it to an available USB port later, your friend’s contacts will synchronize automatically to your Poken account which is subsequently propogated to Facebook, MySpace and other social. Now the trick is to get everyone else to buy a Poken. I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of a Poken slap, that’s for sure.
