Microsoft executives will be smiling from ear to ear, knowing that their Xbox 360 console has a 1 million lifetime sales lead over the Sony PS3 across five major European territories – the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, although we do wonder whether part of that huge lead is due to gamers returning defective units to Microsoft. Guess an early launch date does help in this case study, while a steady decline in cost has gone a great deal to help boost Microsoft’s sales figures. Whatever the case is, both Microsoft and Sony are fighting for crumbs left over after Nintendo has eaten the cake. Strange to see the fight for second place to be so intense.
