Just how cheap do you think computer prices can get? Apparently Indian officials are excited about showing off a new portable computer that will make the OLPC laptop look as though it was a Ferrari price-wise. The brains behind this project claim that their portable computer costs approximately $20 to manufacture, but with the advent of mass production, that cost could potentially be slashed by up to half. Apart from the extremely tempting price tag, very little (or none, rather) information is available concerning this device. We’re pretty sure of one thing though – chances are you won’t be able to find Windows XP running on this, as the license alone will be worth more than the entire portable computer. The Indian government is looking to make this available within half a year’s time – will it affect the OLPC’s standing in the world then?
