It Finally Comes Out: the Storm Is Not Good Enough

After riding a wave of hype, it looks like the BlackBerry Storm comes crashing… in customer sentiment. All around me I hear stories of customers returning their Storm, just like Steven Golub in a WSJ story: “I found myself wanting to throw it in the ocean due to my frustration with its overall usability”. Yes, that pretty much sums it

BlackBerry continues to say that the Storm is a huge success and that they are making 250,000 units a week to keep up with demand. Some believes that current issues come from the rush to push it out of the door in time for Black Friday and that a number of small “fixes” might eventually solve it. Our take is that the problem is deeper than that: it might take a major OS update to make it “good enough”. Note that BlackBerry’s CEO thinks that buggy phones are a “new reality”.

In contrast, virtually every BlackBerry Bold owner that we talked to was happy with their device. It was featured in our Uber10 list last November.
