LG Display and Apple have come to a landmark agreement today, with the former supplying the latter with displays for the next 5 years. LG does not want to let the press in on the full extent of the deal, but in a securities filing mentioned that it will receive a cool half billion dollars downpayment from Apple later this month, so we can expect the final figure to be even fatter than imagined. Currently, LG Display churns out around 70% of Apple’s displays, so it remains to be seen whether this new deal will involve an extension in the number of displays or more excitingly, an advancement in a specific segment in terms of display technology. Do you think we could be looking at (figuratively and literally speaking) touchscreen displays for Apple in the future?
