Skype users can now rejoice as there is a lite version of their application for Android and Java platforms. While it won’t offer the full suite of features, it will still cater to your most basic communications needs including Skype-to-Skype calls, instant messaging, outbound and inbound calling and contact viewing. This new lite application is compatible with more than 100 Java-based phones and Android – after all, basic calls seem to be what Skype is used mainly for, and jumping aboard the Android bandwagon could be a stroke of genius as Skype could offer a variety of packages including subscription and pay-as-you-go options. The free beta ought to be in the Android Market at this point in time, while those rocking on Java handsets can head on here.
