A bunch of brains from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a new prototype device that resembles a bar of soap, but it comes with a bunch of sensors (72 in total) located throughout its surface and a three-axis accelerometer that is able to measure its motion in 3D, capable of tracking the position of user’s fingers in order to let you know whether you are holding a remote control, PDA, digital camera, games controller or cell phone. Granted, some of those devices come in different form factors, but there are common pressure points that our fingers visit when holding them. The LCD display will show what device you’re holding, and it is almost uncanny in doing so.
