Dell Hybrid Laptops To Feature ARM Processor

Dell is working on hybrid laptops that will feature not only an ARM processor-based sub-system, but Intel’s traditional main notebook platform as well. Rumors have it that the ARM low-voltage sub-CPU, when working together with Linux OS, will make room for a “multi-day battery life” – something customers of Dell’s Latitude E4200 and E4300 will appreciate. Talk about never having to pack your charger for a 2 days out-of-town business trip. Folks who run on Linux in ‘instant-on’ mode will be able to enjoy fast access to e-mail, calendar, attachments and contacts on the low-power ARM processor, whereas folks who want to use the main operating system can rely on the Intel Core 2 Duo processor instead. There is no word on availability and pricing at press time.
