Engineer Designed Own Robotic Arm

Who knows your body better than yourself? That’s probably what spurred engineer Mark Lesek on after a horrific accident that forced him to lop off an arm in order to save his life. Mark’s initial efforts to find a prosthesis that fits failed to yield any positive matches, and being the engineer that he is, he decided to take matter into his own hand by designing his very own robotic arm. Once he was done with it, he even went on to construct and install one on himself, and it looks as though this robotic arm is working more than just fine – it has given Mark Lesek a new lease of life. Mark is currently collaborating with the University of Tasmania to design a computer-controlled prosthesis, although don’t rule out a brain-controlled version in the future.
