Hitachi Expands CinemaStar Line

Hitachi has just added yet another member to its CinemaStar family with the introduction of the CinemaStar C5K500. This 2.5″ hard drive won’t touch a TB worth of storage space, as it maxes out at half that amount. Specially designed for silent operation and cool running, you can rest assured that the CinemaStar C5K500 uses extremely little power and will target video-centric applications, thanks to its SmoothStream technology that is used to enhance digital video streaming programs. Other features include time-limited error recovery and thermal monitoring capability. It is in line with Hitachi’s EcoTrac classification, as it sips a mere 1.4W of power during read/write operations, making it 22% more power efficient than its predecessors. There is no word on pricing although this drive will ship sometime in Q2 this year.
