[Mobile World Congress] The more I travel, and the more I like the 6170 Navigator and Nokia Maps: it’s a navigation system that uses maps stored locally (no data download!) and Nokia users have access to worldwide maps – free. That’s pretty cool. Associate that with an A-GPS (uses alternative geo-location sources when a clean GPS signal is not available) integrated in the phone and you’ve got a great pedestrian (or otherwise) GPS in your pocket.
The phone is small and nice to hold in the hand. The design is rather Nokia-classic, so if you I guess that you know where you stand on Nokia phones. I finally could try the “zoom” bar (the chrome bar under my left thumb in the photos) and I have to admit that it’s a very interesting idea. By sliding my finger on the zoom bar, I can zoom in or out very easily. Overall, the Nokia 6170 seems to solve the pedestrian navigation problem. I hope that it works without a SIM card as well…
