
Rambus has demonstrated their latest RAM technology that it hopes to be used in smartphones of the future for improved visuals, after all that’s probably the next stage of evolution as the rest of the features like Bluetooth connectivity, internal memory, a decent digital camera as well as 3G connectivity are pretty much standard on most handsets these days. Advanced visuals are still a long way off, although the iPhone 3G does have some pretty impressive performance in its game lineup. Rambus’ Mobile Memory Initiative relies on a variant of the separate, flexible clock speeds used in XDR memory, albeit running on lower power and using low variance signaling to create extremely high bandwidth without having to suck up too much juice. The result? 4.3Gbps from a single chip at just 100mV, which is roughly the equivalent of five times the headroom of the 800-megabit mobile memory by today’s standards. Rambus hopes MMI-based products will roll out from early next year onwards.
