We’re pretty sure that solar-powered cell phones are a start where green handsets are concerned, but here’s another novel idea that is pretty practical as well – harnessing the force of typing to translate it into power for your phone’s battery, thanks to the boffins at the Georgia Institute of Technology who are behind this project. According to Zhong Lin Wang, a Regent’s professor in the Georgia Tech School of Materials Science and Engineering, “This technology can convert any mechanical disturbance into electrical energy.” We wonder just how much typing needs to be done in order to juice up the entire phone, but some power is better than nothing – especially during emergencies.
