We’ve heard about two solar-powered cell phones from Samsung and LG at the ongoing Mobile World Congress, but Chinese manufacturer ZTE has announced the first low-cost solar-powered cell phone in the world to target at least two billion users around the world. This phone is meant for folks who have no or limited access to electricity, but it makes us wonder whether such folks will have the need for a phone, and will they be able to afford the monthly plans? Hopefully ZTE’s offering won’t be a half-baked (no pun intended) effort, and we look forward to their next (hopefully positive) announcement. Let’s hope these solar-powered phones won’t be melamine-laced though…
