After three intense days in the Silicon Valley, the Emerging Communications conference (eComm) closed its doors on Thursday March 5th.
Created in 2007 by Lee S Dryburgh, a telecommunications engineer, eComm aims at gathering people ahead-of-the-curve about communication innovation.
This year, people came from around the world to meet and share visions and products, whether they are working in the telecom, services or web industry.
The most interesting trend that emerged and caught our attention is the Web now taking a bigger place in the Telecom world, serving as a platform to deliver services. During the conference, two companies gave some hints about how we are going to interact with our mobile phones in the future.
Phweet, for instance, brings together phone calls and Twitter in a radically innovative way. Just like one link a picture or a video within a Twitter message, called tweet, one can now include a small URL that requests a phone call with another Twitter friend/follower or unknown user, thanks to Phweet (Phone + Tweet). Only once the URL is clicked by the receiver is the call initiated without anyone having shared a phone number.
After their presentation at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month, Ditech Networks introduced their voice assistant that’s linked to Google Calendar and Google Mail. In a nutshell, during any phone call, the user says “toktok” and activates his own private assistant that will check open slots in the calendar, add new meetings or send emails without even dropping the call.
When Speech-to-text meets mobile and web APIs, the future is not far away. Yet another proof that eComm is the place to be when it comes to showcasing and accelerating innovation.
