The current Game Developers Conference (GDC) that is happening in San Francisco has seen Performance Designed Products (PDP) parade a couple of controllers for two dominant gaming systems of today – the Gametrak Freedom for the Xbox 360 and the SmartStylus for the Nintendo DS. The Gametrak Freedom that you see here resembles a hybrid of a Wiimote as well as the colored buttons of the Xbox 360 controller. In addition, you will find that the Gametrak Freedom comes with an ultrasonic 3D motion sensing technology which allows you to send signals to a base unit that is connected via USB to the Xbox 360. You won’t need to point at a screen or sensor with this since movements are tracked through your current 3D position. As for the SmartStylus accessory, this is but a prototype device with vibration feedback, and is capable of controlling the portable gaming console without touching it. Hopefully the summer roll out of games will be interesting enough to cater to these new peripherals.
