Japan Bullet Trains Get Broadband

Internet connectivity is getting more and more pervasive, that even passengers on Japan’s world famous Shinkansen bullet trains will soon be able to access the Internet via Wi-Fi from March 14th onwards, thanks to the combined efforts of Japan’s No. , 2 and 3 telecommunications companies – NTT, KDDI and SoftBank in launching the infrastructure. Initially, this service will be limited to the N700 series Shinkansen as seen above which runs between Tokyo and Osaka, alongside all the concourse waiting lounges (total of 17) stations along that route. You get a minimum speed of 2Mbps when the trains run at full speed or through tunnels, while they are able to hit 54Mbps (theoretical) in waiting lounge areas.
